Now what?

How do I start?
  • Become a blogger: start your own blog. We can't expect students to use what we don't.
  • Also, we want to look like we know what we are talking about because, face it, kids are the experts on navigating the internet!
  • Start small on your class blog. Start by posting homework and class links.
  • After you have prepared your students, assign them one blog entry per week.
  • Stress reflection: hold them accountable for school blog etiquette.
  • As students become more proficient on posting entires, encourage them to respond to each other's comments.
  • You should always have a back up plan or paper option in case computers are down or students don't have access.
How do I get my students ready to blog?
  • Have students read many models of comments on class blogs.
  • Students' communication with peers tends to be very informal. Teach importance of tone and respect for other's opinions. Language needs to be in "school" format. Consider the audience.
